Gilbert High School holds rally to Spread the Word to End the word.
The Best Buddies Chapter at North High School had more than 600 students attend their March assembly.
Spread the Word to End the Word is an ongoing campaign to help raise awareness on the negative connotation of the word “retard” or “retarded” has on those with intellectual disabilities their friends and their families.
Using the r-word can be damaging, even when said unintentionally. By going to www.r-word.org and signing the pledge, you are helping to eliminate the use of the r-word in everyday speech. The pledge is simple:
“I pledge and support the elimination of the derogatory use of the r-word from everyday speech and promote the acceptance and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.”
When you sign the pledge you become a part of a global movement.
We ask that you not stop there, but continue to spread the word everyday this year by telling friends, wearing the shirt (www.r-wordstore.com) and letting others know, you don’t appreciate it when they use the r-word.
